HARWINTON – Ward E. Winegar, 76, of Harwinton passed away April 4, 2024, at home. He was the husband of Mary Winegar who died in 2015.
Born in Torrington on May 17, 1947, son of the late Earl and Lorraine Veillette Winegar, He was a graduate of Torrington High Class of 1965. He served in the US Coast Guard aboard the USCGC McLane and USCGC Courageous, honorably discharged in 1970.
As a second-generation roofer, he was the owner and operator of E.E. Winegar roofing where he worked with his brothers and sons. At the age of 40 he returned to school and received his AS Degree from NWCC, a bachelor degree from UConn in biological sciences, and an RN Degree from Naugatuck Valley College, beginning a long Nursing career in 1995. He was employed by several nursing facilities in the area, including Torrington Extend-A-Care.
He is survived by his daughter, Traci Polinsky (Mark); sons, Ward S. Winegar, Ross Consolini, and Jonathan Consolini; and grandchildren, Rae and Sean Polinsky and Gillian Winegar. He also leaves brothers; Kim, Drew, and Jay Winegar; and sisters, Earlene Winegar and Lois Melaragno.
Ward was pre-deceased by an infant daughter, Amber Rose, and infant twin sons, Earl and Edward.
