On March 19, the equinox arrived, marking the start of spring. Though it usually falls on the 20th of the month, it came a day early due to leap year. Our relatively mild winter has given way to an equally mild start of spring — a time when hope is at a high and new life is born and blooms all around us.

At CNCC, it is a very busy time for our faculty, staff and students, but it is also a time of hope and joy. We recently had the opportunity to bestow academic and leadership honors on students at CNCC’s annual Student Honors Programs, held on April 2 in Rangely and April 5 in Craig. It was wonderful to see and recognize the successes of some of the top-performing students at our college.

Looking ahead, we will be holding a Spring Fling on Saturday, May 4 from 10 a.m. to 4 pm. at our CNCC-Craig campus (2801 W. 9th St.). Participants of all ages can expect to enjoy handmade arts and crafts, field museum tours, food from local vendors and activities of all kinds. This is a chance to bring our CNCC and local community together.

Though students are feeling the educational “burn,” they also look forward to finishing off the semester on a positive note. For those graduating, they are contemplating their next life phase with excitement.

We will also have additional opportunities to recognize outstanding students and program-specific ceremonies in the coming week. We are looking forward to honoring National Park Ranger candidates who will be graduating on May 9. Nursing graduates will be honored at a pinning ceremony on May 10 and Aviation candidates will be honored on the same day at their Wings Ceremony.

Dental Hygiene will hold its annual pinning ceremony on the morning of May 11 with CNCC’s commencement exercises taking place that afternoon at 2 p.m. in Rangely.

We have much to do to close out this academic year, which was filled with institutional and student achievements, but we have much to look forward to during these final weeks of the semester. We in Spartan Country wish each of you hope and joy during this spring season.
