CSK vs KKR Highlights IPL 2024: Gaikwad’s unbeaten 67 and Jadeja 3-fer takes CSK to seven wicket win

Vaibhav Arora into the attack. Vaibhav goes short to Dube, he gets his pull completely wrong, falls safely right next to him on the pitch. Six!! In the slot this time, Dube lofts it handsomely over the leg side for a six. WICKET!! Length again, Dube misses the lofted shot and is cleaned up.

Chakravarthy with his fourth over. Six!! Chakravarthy goes wide, Dube swings hard and lofts it down the ground for six. Six!! Another full ball, another six down the ground. 

Narine to complete his quota of overs. Dube and Gaikwad manage to get six runs off the over. 

Starc back into the attack. Full on the pads, Gaikwad plays a lofted flick that falls in front of the deep fielder. 100 up for CSK. Four!! Starc goes short, Dube pulls it through deep midwicket for a boundary. Yorker length, Dube digs it out to long on for a single. Four!! Short again, Gaikwad pulls through deep square to get another boundary. 

Narine back into the attack. WICKET!! Mitchell comes down the track and looks for a lofted shot, is beaten and sees the stumps disturbed behind him. Too late for KKR.

Shivam Dube in as impact sub. Gets off the mark with a single to long on.

Chakravarthy back for his third. Slight short, pulled to midwicket for a single. Mitchell looks to come down the track, almost yorks himself. A fortunate inside edge for a couple brings up Ruturaj’s fifty off 45 balls. Seven runs off the over. 

Russell into the attack. Full on the pads, Gaikwad flicks to deep midwicket for a single. Back of length, Mitchell powers it off the backfoot to long on for a single. Four!! Another boundary for Gaikwad, was short, he controlled the pull through square leg. 

Varun with his second over. A double off leg byes bring up the fifty partnership between Mitchell and Gaikwad. On the pads, Gaikwad turns it leg side and gets another double. Seven runs off the over. 

Narine continues. Mitchell moves across and flicks one through midwicket, quick running gets the batter a double. Seven runs off the over after some smart rotation of strike. 

Varun Chakravarthy into the attack. Three dot balls to start off his spell. Short on the body, Gaikwad looks to pull, misses it and gets hit on the hip. Just a single from the over. 

Narine into the attack. Mitchell looks to sweep, gets a single. Full again, Mitchell sweeps it fine and picks up a couple. Six!! Slightly shorter, Mitchell stands tall and lofts it down the ground for a huge six. Four!! Full outside off, Mitchell plays the reverse sweep and gets it through backward point for four. 

Vaibhav with his third. Mitchell gets a single to deep square. Gaikwad follows suit. Dropped!! Mitchell looks to whip the back of a length ball, hit it straight to Ramandeep at deep square and it pops right out of his hand. Four!! Length ball, driven through the offside for a boundary by Gaikwad. Four!! Short and wide, Gaikwad cuts it through backward point for a boundary. 

Anukul Roy into the attack. Four!! Full outside off, Gaikwad drives it expertly through the covers for four. Huge appeals for LBW as Gaikwad is trapped in front. KKR opt to review. Big inside edge and KKR loses its review. Four!! Gaikwad makes room and guides it past third man and point to the boundary. Four!! Fuller in length, Gaikwad drives through extra cover for another boundary. 

Vaibhav with his second. WICKET!! Rachin lofts a fuller one down the ground but the fielder was stationed at long on and Chakravarthy completes an easy catch.

Daryl Mitchell in at 3, gets off the mark with a single. Gaikwad guides the next one to third man for another single. Ajinkya Rahane will be allowed to bat only after the fall of five wickets or at 10:50 pm local time. 

Starc continues. Four!! Length ball on the stumps, Rachin drives uppishly down the ground for a boundary. Four!! Full again, similar result as Rachin lofts this one for another boundary down the ground. Full toss on the pads, Rachin swivels and lofts it over fine leg for the third four of the over. 

Vaibhav Arora with his first over. Rachin gets a single to point first ball. Short of a length to Gaikwad, guided to third man for a couple. Four!! Vaibhav goes short outside off, Gaikwad waits for it and lofts it above the keeper for a boundary. 

Ruturaj and Rachin out to open for CSK. Mitchell Starc with the new ball in hand. Can KKR make a match out of this?

Short of a length on the body, Rachin defends and steals a quick single. Gaikwad gets off the mark with a double to deep square. Four runs from the first. 

Shreyas Iyer’s struggle in the middle ends as Jadeja swallows an eacy catch at the deep. It was a struggle for Iyer, who is searching for form and runs. Mitchell Starc also falls as Mustafizur takes two wickets. Jadeja started the fall, and then the rest of the bowlers joined the party. It should be an easy chase for Chennai... 

Russell nails Deshpande through the square region, and the trick was settling deep into the crease. However, the bowler has the last laugh as Deshpande picks his third as Russell hits straight to the man at long-on. Anukul Roy comes in as the impact sub for Rinku Singh. 

Swing and a miss as Mustafizur is back into the attack. Russell muscles a No-Ball through the covers and then misses the free-hit. The lengths have been terrific, and the variation in the pace was the key. A rare miss from MS Dhoni, who dropped Russell, was a simple catch to his right. A drop by Dhoni!

Tushar Deshpande is back into the attack, and he picks the big one as Rinku Singh drags a slower ball onto his stumps as Dehpande picks his second wicket. This has been excellent from Chennai. Kolkata is in deep trouble. Andre Russell has entered the park!

The timing has been an issue for the Kolkata batsmen, as Rinku mistimed one that landed where there was no fielder, but Iyer connected one to the deep square leg boundary. Chennai is still in control of the proceedings. 

“I hope Russell does not come out to bat. Hope these two play all the seven overs,” Bravo to the broadcasters. Meanwhile, Maheesh Theekshana finishes with brilliant figures of 4-0-28-1. Kolkata in the spin cage. 

There was a chance of a run-out but Chennai missed it. Rinku SIngh and Shreyas Iyer are struggling in the middle with the slowness of the wicket not allowing the batsmen to free their arms. 

Jadeja finishes with brilliant figures of 4-0-18-3 and has broken the spine of the Kolkata batting order by picking three wickets upfront. There is grip and turn for the spinners, and both Iyer and Rinku have a job in their hands. 

Ramandeep swings through the line and connects beautifully, sending the bowler for a maximum as Theekshana enters the attack. However, Theekshana’s carrom ball proves deadly as it bamboozles the batsman, shattering his stumps. This dismissal marks Theekshana’s 50th wicket in the IPL, showcasing his bowling prowess.

Shreyas Iyer finds a boundary after 34 balls, but this is top bowling from Chennai. Jadeja is rolling out his overs quickly, and the choke is on Kolkata. 

More spin on the table as Rachin Ravindra comes into the attack, and the boundaries have dried up as it’s been 24 balls since the last one came up. Just four runs from the over. 

And the Jadeja magic works as he picks up his third wicket by packing off Venkatesh Iyer, and Kolkata needs to now rebuild its innings. Chennai is thriving at the Chepauk, and Ramandeep Singh gets a promotion ahead of Rinku Singh. 

Theekshana seeks inspiration from Jadeja, and now Chennai is toying with the Kolkata batsman. Narine is gone, and Shreyas Iyer is not in great touch. Ventatesh Iyer would like to make a stetement with the bat. 

Ravindra Jadeja traps Raghuvanshi, who attempted to play the reverse sweep, and the spinner strikes on his opening ball, ending the partnership. Raghuvanshi plays a risky shot against a left-arm spinner. Jadeja eliminates Narine, and spin becomes the king. This is a major blow for Kolkata. With a straightforward catch at long off, Jadeja takes two wickets in his opening over. 

The PowerPlay story

Kolkata lost Phil Salt in the very first ball but Sunil Narine and Angkrish Raghuvanshi have rebuilt the innings with a fifty-run partnership. Narine is the aggressor, and PowerPlay belongs to Kolkata, which yielded 56 runs.

First signs of spin as Maheesh Theekshana comes into the attack, but Raghuvanshi welcomes the spinner with a beautiful six, hitting through the line and straight into the sightscreen. Narine then brought the fifty up by smashing the bowler for a maximum over long-on. 

Shardul Thakur is taking the treatment now as Naile drills the bowler through the mid-off and he is striking at 166.66! Chennai needs to remove Narine; otherwise, they are staring at a huge score. 

Narine is indulging in his favourite pastime—efficiently smashing the bowlers without concern for the process. The West Indian swiftly secures back-to-back boundaries, directing the ball to the backward square leg fence before gaining a bonus leg-bye. Narine’s onslaught continues as he effortlessly dispatches Deshpande for another boundary through mid-off and then proceeds to loft the ball over the deep square leg for a maximum. His relentless assault shows no signs of abating.

Mustafizur Rahman is into the attack, and he starts well, although conceding a boundary with Angkrish Raghuvanshi lofting the bolwler over mid-off for a boundary. Decent start from Kolkata. 

What a start this has been for Chennai as Tushar Deshpande removes Philip Salt for a duck as the batsman slices it to the backward point where Ravindra Jadeja takes a sharp catch and Chennai is up and running.

We’re eager to secure a victory in this game. The opposition is playing a strong brand of cricket, so our approach is to keep it straightforward. Pathirana is unavailable, but Mustafizur returns. Shardul is in the lineup, and Rizvi makes a comeback.
