Voter ID was first introduced in 1993 during the tenure of TN Election Commissioner Seshan and makes it easier for people to participate in elections. According to the Constitution of India, all Indian citizens above the age of 18 years have the right to vote, subject to reasonable restrictions. The voter ID contains important details such as name, address, photo, epic number, date of birth (DOB) and age.

Update DOB in Voter ID Card Online: Documents Required

  • A birth certificate provided by either the school, municipal authorities, or the Registrar of births and deaths.
  • Mark sheet of class 5, 8 (if it shows your date of birth), 10, or 12
  • Baptism certificates

How to Update Your Date of Birth on Voter ID Card Online

  • Step 1: Visit the official NVSP website at https://www.nvsp.in/ and navigate to the homepage.
  • Step 2: Register on the portal and log in using your registered account.
  • Step 3: Click on the “Form – 8 (Correction of entries in electoral roll)” option.
  • Step 4: You will be directed to a new page displaying Form 8.
  • Step 5: Complete the form by providing required details such as your State, District, and Assembly/Parliamentary Constituency.
  • Step 6: Fill in your name, surname, part number, serial number, and Elector’s Photo Identity Card (EPIC) number.
  • Step 7: Navigate to the Date of Birth field that needs updating.
  • Step 8: Input your updated Date of Birth.
  • Step 9: Upload all necessary supporting documents.
  • Step 10: Accept the declaration and then click on the “Submit” button.
  • Step 11: You will receive an email containing a link to check the status of your voter ID application. Your application may be approved, and a voter ID issued within approximately 30 days.
  • Visit the official website of NVSP, the National Voters Services Portal – https://www.nvsp.in/
  • Once the homepage loads, log in to your registered account.
  • Next, click on the “Track Application Status” button.
  • You will be directed to a new page where you can enter your reference ID.
  • After entering your reference ID, click on the “Track Status” button to view the current status on your screen.
  • Alternatively, you can call 1950 to inquire about the status of your voter ID correction application (applicable for BSNL or MTNL telephones).
