Bruno Fernandes nets 40-yard stunner for Manchester United as Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah’s error proves costly

Bruno Fernandes scored a stunning 40-yard effort in front of the Stretford End to get Manchester United level against Liverpool.

Man United had been second best for the entirety of the first half after failing to record a single shot while Liverpool had 15 of their own.

With Luis Diaz finding the net from close range, it felt like a game that Jurgen Klopp's side were set to kill off before Jarell Quansah endured a moment to forget.

Under no pressure whatsoever, the 21-year-old squared a pass straight into the path of Fernandes who was just inside the Liverpool half.

Without even taking a touch, the Portuguese star let rip and beat the out-of-position Caoimhin Kelleher who was powerless to keep the effort out of his net.

That strike was Fernandes' 50th for Manchester United in the Premier League and undoubtedly one of his most memorable.

Man United weren't done yet though, with Kobbie Mainoo netting a stunner midway through the second half to go 2-1 up.

However Mohamed Salah's late penalty meant that the game ended 2-2.

Liverpool knew that they need a victory to reclaim top spot in the table following victories for Arsenal and Man City this weekend, meaning that they stay second on goal difference.

Meanwhile Man United remain in sixth spot and 11 points off the top four.
