COSTA MESA, Calif. – Rosemary Bercier Zanca was born in Prospect, Conn., on Nov 14, 1932. She passed away peacefully at the Vivante Shores Memory Care Residence in Costa Mesa, Calif., on Jan. 26, 2024, after suffering from dementia/aphasia for the last three years.
Rosemary graduated from Waterbury Catholic High School and then Fordham School of Nursing. She worked at Saint Mary’s Hospital and Waterbury Hospital as a night private duty nurse for more than 30 years, and finished her nursing career as an IV therapist.
Rosemary was a devoted wife and mother who was an active member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority and Key Club. She loved to dote on her grandchildren, read, bird watch, create with ceramics, listen to Pavarotti, travel, and visit with her many friends.
Rosemary was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Ray Zanca; brother William Bercier; sisters Joan Bercier and Darlene Pasquariello; and son-in-law Ed Lopes. She is survived by her daughter Carole Lopes, and grandchildren Michael Lopes and Kat Lopes; her daughter Diane Zanca; and son Raymond Zanca. She will be missed dearly by her family and friends.
Rosemary’s funeral Mass will be on Friday, April 12, 2024, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, All Saints Parish, 309 S. Main St., Waterbury. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Family and friends are asked to meet directly at the church. Maiorano Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Rosemary’s name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (act.alz.org), American Heart Association (heart.org), Hoag at Home Hospice (hoag.org), or a charity of your choice.
