People from Mastimol, Canacona, are panicky to move out of their houses these days as more than 15 cases of monkey attack have been reported in the area for the last one and a half month.

A lone menacing monkey has been attacking people causing them injuries which require medical attention.

The locals from Mastimol who narrated the terrifying incidents said that most of them were attacked when they were alone. The monkey attacks only from behind and flees from the place. Monkey troopes have always been a common sight to us here, but this is the first time cases of such attacks by a lone monkey have been reported, they said.

Sources also informed that a stray dog was also attacked by the monkey.

Community Health Centre (CHC) sources said that 13 people with bites and one with scratch marks have been treated at the health centre with first aid, anti-rabies vaccine and serum to prevent bacterial infection. The CHC source said that they have been treating monkey attack victims from March till date, while the last reported case of monkey attack was on Saturday morning.

With attack on more than 15 people, the local forest department staff is actively working to trap the menacing mammal to prevent further serious
encounters.

Forest department sources said that their team is trying to track the monkey, and rescue it by administering a tranquilizer.
