Saturday was Opening Day for three Morgan City youth baseball leagues at Complex Field near Morgan City Municipal Auditorium.
About 150 players 7-12 have signed up to play in the Minor League, City League and Dixie League this year, up from 2023. They're playing on a newly renovated field that, for the time being, will have a slightly elevated home plate area until after the season, when top soil will be used to build up the infield. New turf has been planted on the infield and in the outfield.
The teams are Scully's Aluminum Boats, Central Appraisal, G&J Land and Marine, Taco Bell and Peterdon's Golf Carts in the Minor League; Halimar, Cleveland Billiot, Hanko's, Guidry and Horaist Orthodontics, and Wildflower Boutique in the City League; and Dragna Brothers, Johnny's Propeller, and Skipper's Sporting Goods in the Dixie League.
Opening Day for T-ball, wee-ball and softball will be in two weeks.
