Chinese biotechs scramble to find Washington lobbyists
Following pressure from Capitol Hill, large lobbying firms dropped WuXi AppTec, Complete Genomics
Chinese companies targeted in the Biosecure Act have reassembled their Washington lobbying teams following pressure from a House select committee and Republicans in the House and Senate on lobbying firms and trade associations to drop their representation of Chinese biotech companies.
On March 21, a week after the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party publicly rebuked BIO for opposing the Biosecure Act, the Vogel Group, a large lobbying firm, filed a disclosure form indicating that it had terminated its representation of Complete Genomics, which is targeted in the bill. Complete Genomics is a unit of MGI Tech Co. Ltd. (Shanghai:688114).
