The Steamboat Springs High School baseball team is back to an even .500 record following its sweep of Moffat County during Wednesday night’s doubleheader in Craig.
The Sailors’ bats were hot in game one, scoring 23 runs — including 13 in the fifth inning alone. Sophomore Fred Lohne led the team with four hits and six RBI, including a three-run home run.
Jack Fisher, junior, took the bump and struck out eight in 4.2 innings pitched, en route to a 23-6 final.
Game two was a little bit closer despite the Sailors scoring at least one run in six of the game’s seven innings. Steamboat collected 11 runs on eight hits to Moffat’s nine runs on 10 hits. Steamboat’s Damien Dobson gave up six runs in 4.2 innings pitched while picking up nine strikeouts. Junior Wiley Cotter followed up with four strikeouts of his own in two innings pitched.
Steamboat is now 4-4 on the season, but continues to search for its first league win, currently sitting 0-4 in the 4A Western Slope.
The Sailors will have that opportunity on Saturday when it travels to Rifle for a doubleheader.
