Every time there's a big Ranbir Kapoor film in the making, more often than not it is touted as his most challenging project of his career yet. It was said of Brahmāstra (2011) and it is being said of Ramayana, too. There are greater stakes in the big banner multi-starrer Ramayana.
The actor will be portraying Hindu god Rama in Bawaal director Nitesh Tiwari's epic-drama Ramayana. While the makers have kept almost every information surrounding the film under wraps, some pictures and videos, allegedly from the sets, have gone viral. The leaked footage shows architecture being constructed to showcase the ancient era of the period drama.
An Instagram user dropped two photos from the sets of Ramayana on her Instagram handle. It is speculated that the user might be associated with the film as a crew member.
One of the pictures features the under-construction set with numerous pillars and wooden walls. There was also a dome structure similar to a temple. The post is captioned as “Ramayana Day 1 (sic).” In another video shared an X user, large pillars are visible.

In February 2024, it was reported that Ranbir Singh would undergo voice and diction training for Nitesh's film. A source said, “Ranbir has a certain baritone and a way of speaking his lines. It is symbolic and if you have even closed your eyes, you can recognise a dialogue purely based on Ranbir’s voice. In ‘Ramayana’, Nitesh wants to make sure Ranbir sounds different from the characters he’s played in the past. Being a versatile actor, Ranbir is enjoying this process of trying something new,” as quoted in India Today.
South actress Sai Pallavi plays Rama's wife Sita. There were rumours that Janhvi Kapoor has replaced Sai Pallavi for the role, but that remains untrue and unverified. There were speculations that Sakshi Tanwar would play Ravana's wife Mandodari, but she told Pinkvilla that she has "not been approached". Indira Krishnan is rumoured to play Kaushalya, Rama's biological mother, in the film. Krishnan was last seen in the Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Animal. Speculations are also rife that Sunny Deol is being considered for essaying the role of Lord Hanuman; Bobby Deol has been approached to play Kumbhkaran and Vijay Sethupathi to portray Ravana's youngest brother Vibhishan. However, there have not been any official disclosure from the producersand these rumours remain unconfirmed.
