In honor of World Wish Month, American Airlines, Make-A-Wish, and Disney are teaming up to turn the dreams of children facing serious illnesses into reality. On April 17, 28 families with wishful children will embark on a special journey known as the Wish Flight. This unique, charter flight will take off from Dallas-Fort Worth, heading to Orlando, Florida, with the magical destination being the Walt Disney World Resort®.
Recently, American Airlines held a heartwarming wish reveal event at its headquarters in Fort Worth, Texas, for the local families participating. The celebration was filled with joy as employees supported the children with cheers, signs, treats, and photo opportunities, introducing them to the exciting Wish Flight ahead in April.
The Wish Flight promises to be an adventure filled with memorable moments right from the start, including a celebratory breakfast at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport and a special farewell from the WishMakers who bring these dreams to life. The flight itself will feature an amazing onboard party, with games, a unique snack menu, live entertainment, and magical surprises, all courtesy of American Airlines, ensuring a life-changing journey for the children and their families.
Upon arrival at Orlando International Airport, the families will be greeted with enthusiasm by WishMakers. Their adventure continues with a welcoming event at Give Kids The World Village, a fairy-tale nonprofit resort where they will reside for six days and five nights. The visit to Walt Disney World Resort® fulfills the heartfelt wishes of all the children, a dream made possible by the collaborative efforts of Make-A-Wish and Disney, who have granted over 155,000 transformative wishes since 1980.
Make-A-Wish requires nearly 3 billion airline miles annually to cover travel for critically ill children, highlighting the essential role of air travel in fulfilling every eligible child’s wish. American Airlines, a long-time partner of Make-A-Wish, contributes significantly by donating the Wish Flight and millions of AAdvantage® miles each year.
For the month of April, American Airlines will allocate all AAdvantage® miles donated through the Miles for Global Health and Well-Being campaign to Make-A-Wish, up to a total of 50 million miles. The success of wish-granting initiatives relies heavily on the commitment and generosity of WishMakers, ranging from individuals and businesses to celebrities. However, more supporters are needed to help Make-A-Wish reach its goal of granting life-altering wishes to every eligible child.
To celebrate World Wish Month, Make-A-Wish branches globally encourage people everywhere to join the cause and become a WishMaker by the month’s end. The Wish Flight exemplifies the incredible impact achievable when communities come together to support these children’s dreams.
Make-A-Wish and American Airlines warmly invite those inspired to make a difference in the lives of wish children to discover how they can help fulfill these dreams by becoming a WishMaker at wishmaker.org.
