WATERBURY – Mrs. Barbara E. (Layden) Grenier, 59, of Waterbury, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Sunday, March 31, 2024. She was the loving wife of Edward “Eddie” Grenier.

Barbara was born in Waterbury on Dec. 28, 1964, daughter of the late Francis and Barbara (Nolan) Layden. She was a graduate of Crosby High School, class of 1983. She worked in the retail industry, having worked for Bradlees Department Store for 16 years, Home Depot for 16 years, and was presently working as a Warehouse Selector at Macy’s Warehouse in Cheshire.

She was an avid softball player, loved music, especially her favorite rock band Journey, and the Boston Red Sox. In her younger years she and her girlfriends Robin and Gladys would go roller skating frequently at Roller Magic.

She will be greatly missed by all who knew her, especially her loving pets that she loved and adored.

Besides her husband Eddie of 35 years, Barbara leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Nicholas E. Grenier, Tyler B. Grenier, and Lexie M. Grenier, all of Waterbury; her brothers, Francis E. “Skippy” Layden of East Haven, Joseph R. Layden and John P. Layden, both of Waterbury; several cousins, including Julie and Lenny Washburn of Boston, and their daughter Christa; and many nieces and nephews, including Cassie, Elaina and her three sons, Jacob, Caleb, and Noah.

Funeral will be Saturday, 9 a.m., from Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, to St. Francis Xavier Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Cremation will follow. Calling hours will be Friday, 5 to 7 p.m., at the funeral home.
