Former Crest football assistant Pat Bowman gets head coach job at Cherryville

Cherryville High School hired Pat Bowman to serve as its next head football coach. Bowman is taking over for Tim Pruitt, who coached the Ironmen for 12 non-consecutive seasons.
It is the first head coaching job for Bowman. He is a graduate of Crest High School and has been an assistant coach with the Chargers for the past decade.
As a senior in the 2010 season, Bowman helped Crest reach the 3AA state championship game, where the Chargers fell to Northern Guilford by a score of 21-20. That Charger team finished 11-4 overall.
Bowman is also a graduate of Catawba Valley Community College.
The coach returned to Crest in 2013 as the offensive line coach. He worked his way up to becoming the co-offensive coordinator in 2018. He has coached a variety of offenses, from the Wildcat to the Air Raid.
Cherryville is coming off of a 2-9 overall finish in 2023. The Ironmen made it to the 1A state playoffs, but fell to Eastern Randolph by a score of 68-7 on the road in the first round. The Ironmen compete in the Southern Piedmont 1A/2A Conference with the likes of Shelby and Burns.
