When filmmaker Nikhil Nagesh Bhat’s directorial Kill premiered at the Toronto Film Festival Midnight Madness last year, some reviews called its action ‘visceral’ and ‘gut-wrenching’ while others described it as ‘not for the faint-hearted’. The film produced by Karan Johar and Guneet Monga stars Lakshya, Raghav Juyal and Tanya Maniktala in lead roles. The plot of the film is set in an express train which is hijacked by more than 40 bandits with a plan of looting and kidnapping. The film is now all set to release in Indian theatres on July 5 with the teaser coming out tomorrow.
Describing his experience at the premiere, Johar had taken to his Instagram and wrote that the audience’s response to the film has been “heartening and exhilarating to experience”. In an interview with CBC News, the filmmaker had gone on to call the film “blood porn” and added, “It's blood like you've never seen before in Indian cinema. And it's blood that is cynically, I might say, almost enjoyable to watch."
Actor Lakshya is making his debut in a lead role with this movie while his girlfriend is played by Tanya Maniktala of A Suitable Boy fame. Raghav Juyal as the villain Fani has impressed many critics with his performance. In an interview with moneycontrol.com last year, the actor had called his character “charismatic”. “I needed to be in the moment to play him. Once you come on the set, you have to forget everything and let the magic of the moment take over,” he shared. About the violence in the movie, Juyal had said that it is real-like and not real-life. “It is called ‘playing characters’ because it is a play and not real. There are shows these days that promote everyday sadism and abuse. This is not that. I want people to come and view this film as a piece of art and see it as a story. But I do have a warning for them - himmat hai toh hall mein aao!”
