Europe's largest plant for the production of blue hydrogen is to be built in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Air Products has now announced its plans.
Air Products already operates a hydrogen production plant in Rotterdam.

The plant, which is expected to go into operation in 2026, will significantly reduce CO2 emissions by capturing and storing carbon dioxide. By modernising the existing hydrogen production plant, CO2 will be captured from the manufacturing process and permanently stored in the North Sea by the Porthos system, a consortium for CO2 transport and storage.
This step is intended to significantly reduce Air Products' CO2 emissions in the port of Rotterdam and contribute to achieving the Dutch climate targets. Air Products also plans to supply green hydrogen from renewable energy to further drive decarbonisation.
The initiative is part of a long-term agreement with Exxon Mobil and the Dutch government. The blue hydrogen produced will not only support industry and the mobility sector in the transition, but will also contribute to the creation and preservation of jobs in an important industrial area.
