Tom Carpenter, the lead city attorney for Little Rock, can look forward to a 2% salary increase.
The Little Rock Board of Directors completed Carpenter’s annual evaluation on Tuesday during an extensive private discussion in executive session.
What exactly was said in executive session remains unknown, though the vote on the raise was taken in public after city officials returned. One director, Antwan Phillips, voted in opposition. He did not comment on his reasoning for opposition and said what was discussed in executive session can’t be shared.
Carpenter has been a city employee since 1984, when he was hired as an assistant city attorney. He has been the lead attorney since 1991. Carpenter’s current salary of $186,385 makes him the second-highest paid city employee behind Mayor Frank Scott Jr., who makes $200,000.
The Little Rock Board of Directors is responsible for the employment of the city attorney and the city manager.
