Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has urged for proactive measures to maximise benefits post Bangladesh’s LDC graduation in 2026.

Chairing the 2nd meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC), held at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, she emphasised devising strategies to tackle challenges after graduation even as the discussions centred around leveraging post-graduation opportunities and preparations to confront ensuing challenges.

According to Planning Division senior secretary Satyajit Karmakar, the Prime Minister stressed the collective responsibility of all stakeholders in capitalising on post-LDC facilities.

She highlighted the potential and challenges associated with graduation, emphasising a coordinated approach among ministries.

Planning minister major general (retd) Md Abdus Salam and state minister for planning Md Shahiduzzaman Sarker echoed the Prime Minister’s sentiments while also providing insights into the meeting’s deliberations, which included the approval of 11 projects.

Additionally, the Prime Minister issued directives concerning specific projects, such as ensuring expatriate convenience in infrastructure design and addressing environmental concerns in project execution. She highlighted expediting project completion and incorporating provisions for rainwater preservation and solar energy utilisation.

The Planning Commission assured necessary allocations for projects nearing completion to ensure their timely execution.

Notably, the meeting extended the timeframe for certain projects without additional costs.

In addressing concerns about project delays, planning minister Md Abdus Salam attributed them to land acquisition complexities and currency fluctuations. He affirmed that projects undergo thorough scrutiny before approval.

Regarding the Prime Minister’s directives, the planning minister assured their prompt implementation.

Furthermore, the meeting was briefed on the approval of 30 small projects by the Planning Ministry, alongside several major infrastructure and development projects across various sectors.

Ministers, state ministers, Planning Commission members, and relevant secretaries attended the meeting, underscoring the government’s commitment to efficient project execution and economic advancement.
