Obituary: John Russell

John James Russell, age 53, of Vail, Colorado, passed away on March 7th, 2024, after a long struggle with health issues. His brother, sister and former wife and mother of his children were by his side. He leaves behind a legacy of love and loyalty. John was survived by his two daughters, Piper Russell and Sophie Russell. Piper, a writer and graduate from CSU Fort Collins, and Sophie, a junior at CU Boulder, were the lights of his life. He took great pride in their accomplishments and cherished the time they spent together.

Born in Bethesda, Maryland, John was raised in the suburbs of Washington D.C. He graduated from Our Lady of Good Counsel in Wheaton, MD, in 1989, and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree from St. Francis University in Latrobe, PA, in 1993. Throughout his career, John served as a Controller at various real estate development and hospitality companies within Colorado.

Beyond his professional endeavors, John was a passionate outdoorsman. He found solace and joy in skiing down the slopes, running through scenic trails, and embracing the beauty of nature. His adventurous spirit knew no bounds, and he cherished every moment spent exploring the great outdoors. He also loved a good poker game, especially when he won.

John will be remembered for his infectious laughter, creative storytelling, and an overall zest for life. He touched the lives of all who knew him and leaves behind cherished memories that will be treasured forever.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice.
A private celebration of John’s life will be held this summer.
