The Road House remake has smashed a big viewing record for Prime Video.

The Florida-set bouncer story starring Jake Gyllenhaal has become the most-watched original movie ever produced by the streamer, with over 50 million viewers in its first two weekends.

"The groundbreaking, successful debut of Road House is a testament to the hard work and commitment from the entire Road House filmmaking team and the film's cast led by the phenomenal Jake Gyllenhaal," Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon MGM Studios, said in a statement to Deadline.

"The world is absolutely loving this entertaining, action-packed ride anchored by the performances of Jake, Conor McGregor, Daniela Melchior, Darren Barnet, Billy Magnussen, Jessica Williams, Lukas Gage, Arturo Castro, JD Pardo, and the rest of our stellar cast," Salke continued.

"It's great to see the film taking off with both fans of the iconic original as well as a huge turnout from new audiences. This incredible film is really giving everyone something to talk about, and we couldn't be more proud!"

Directed by Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity, Mr & Mrs Smith), the action movie is a remake of the 1989 film of the same name directed by Rowdy Herrington and starring Patrick Swayze in the lead role.

The new Road House premiered at SXSW earlier in the year, with Liman previously voicing his frustration at his movie not being released in theatres and going straight to streaming.

The filmmaker initially intended to boycott the premiere at the Texas festival as a result, but changed his mind and attended the event last month.

Road House is available to stream on Prime Video.
