What’s new on Disney+ in April 2024

Asha, her goat Valentino, and the Wishing Star in Wish.
Walt Disney Pictures

For all of the hype around Disney+ adding Hulu to its hub, the latter isn’t the one that desperately needs the help. Hulu has a robust selection of new movies and shows every month. By comparison, Disney+’s lineup for April is particularly light. Combined, Hulu and Disney+ can compete with the other streamers, but Disney+ isn’t offering much incentive for subscribers on its own.

The biggest addition to Disney+ in April is Wish, the animated musical that kicked off the 100th anniversary of Walt Disney Pictures late last year. But for younger viewers, they may be more interested in new episodes of Bluey and Spidey and his Amazing Friends. Older fans will still have fresh episodes of X-Men ’97 and Star Wars: The Bad Batch throughout the month. And for nature lovers, there are new programs about tigers and octopuses. The National Geographic programming is always a better investment for Disney+ viewers than reality shows like Dance Moms, which is also on the schedule this month.

Our roundup of everything new on Disney+ in April 2024 can be found below, with our favorites highlighted in bold.

The Acolyte’s first trailer embraces the Dark Side of Star Wars
the acolytes first trailer embraces dark side of star wars acolyte tv 1

Since the launch of Disney+ in 2019, there have been four live-action Star Wars series, including The Mandalorian and Andor. But the one thing that each of those shows had in common was that they followed the hero of the story. This summer, The Acolyte is flipping the switch on that by putting the spotlight on Mae (Amandla Stenberg), a former Padawan in the Jedi Order who seems to have quite a grudge against her onetime masters. That may be why Mae is attacking and apparently killing Jedi with knives in the first trailer for The Acolyte.
