The Mapusa municipality has asked the contractor enrolled by the public works department (PWD) to restore the roads in the market area to their original condition
by April 10.
The roads have been dug up for the ongoing underground power cabling work as a result of which visitors, shopkeepers and others are facing a
tough time.
The affected people are demanding reinstatement of the roads.
During the Chalo Abhiyan programme, Power Minister Ramkrishna ‘Sudin’ Dhavalikar had assured that work of reinstatement of the roads would be taken soon.
The Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) has written a letter to the electricity department asking them to carry out the work of reinstatement of roads in the market which were damaged due to laying underground cabling work as early as possible. Subsequently, the PWD had started the work of reinstatement of market roads mid-March.
Roads in the market area are being levelled using rubble stones and soiling.
MMC chairperson Dr Nutan Bicholkar said, “After completion of the road reinstatement work, we will desilt and repair the drains in
the market.”
