UN Tourism 2nd Women’s Empowerment in Tourism Conference in Bali, May 2-4, 2024, focuses on gender equality and celebrates female leaders.
The upcoming Second Regional Conference on Women’s Empowerment in Tourism for Asia-Pacific is set to be a collaborative effort between the UN’s Tourism body, Indonesia’s Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, and the Bali Tourism Polytechnic. This significant event will unfold in Bali, Indonesia, from May 2nd to 4th, 2024.
In the tourism industry of Asia and the Pacific, women constitute 53% of the workforce. However, they are predominantly found in roles that are lower in skill, pay, and often informal, which restricts their access to social benefits and exposes them to vulnerabilities in crisis situations.
With the tourism sector witnessing a fast and broad revival post the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s critical to focus on diminishing the gender disparities present in the industry and bolster the empowerment avenues for women.
The conference aims to serve as a crucial forum for some of the most influential female figures in the tourism industry across Asia and the Pacific. It will be a celebration of their achievements and a thoughtful discussion on eliminating the obstacles that prevent women from achieving economic and social empowerment.
The program will feature conversations with pioneers from both the governmental and private sectors who are at the forefront of social innovation, exploring effective strategies for the tourism industry to tackle and eradicate gender biases.
The planned sessions include*:
