The 2024 Changshu Yushan Culture and Shajiabang Tourism Festival, in conjunction with the 33rd Jiangsu Changshu Shanghu Peony Festival, commenced in Changshu City, located in Jiangsu Province in Eastern China. The objective is to promote the growth of local cultural tourism.
Under the theme “Savoring Changshu Culture, Marveling at Changshu Scenery,” this month-long festival showcases a lineup of 10 primary activities and 10 supporting events. These include peony festivals, a national opera fan competition, gatherings of Guqin performers, and village cultural markets.
During the festival’s opening ceremony, Shen Xiaodong, Chairman of the Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Changshu Municipal Committee, highlighted Changshu’s recent efforts to blend culture and tourism. He mentioned the creation of distinct tourism products such as health tours, team-building excursions, and educational trips, establishing a unique tourism product framework.
Shen noted Changshu’s recognition as the second-ranking county nationwide for comprehensive tourism strength and the accolade of its Yushan Cultural Tourism Resort as a national-level tourist destination, renowned as the Changshu’s designation as a “National Leisure Tourism Destination” is due to its abundance of tourism resources and well-equipped facilities, which attract both domestic and international tourists.
Additionally, the Shanghu Peony Festival serves as a satellite venue for the 2024 World Peony Conference. Through collaborations between the Shanghu Peony Festival, the main venue in Heze, Shandong Province, and the sub-venue in Shimane, Japan, Changshu aims to elevate its peony reputation on a global scale.
This year’s peony festival, combining both online and offline elements, introduces fresh activities like the nine-color peony petal shower, a flower and bird painting exhibition, the peony fairy parade, and special performances. These endeavors seek to enhance the Shanghu peony brand and amplify the renown of Changshu’s peonies.
The festival, overseen by Changshu government authorities, encompasses diverse realms including tourism, sports, folk culture, exhibitions of intangible cultural heritage, and culinary experiences.
