Samsung goes greener with shift from diesel to natural gas generator in India

Samsung India has announced that it has replaced ten diesel-based generators with eight natural gas-based generators for back power at the company’s mobile manufacturing plant in Noida. The PNG generators will provide the mobile manufacturing facility as well as Samsung Display’s manufacturing plant, which is located on the same premises, with 20MW of power during emergencies. According to the tech giant, the change offers four major benefits.

First, as gas-based generators are more affordable to run, the company can save a significant amount of money in the long run. Second, unlike diesel-power generators, which require the brand to store five lakh liters of diesel, the gas-based ones don’t, and therefore, the company can free up the capital that was tied up in fuel storage.

Third, since the South Korean tech giant will not have to store large amounts of diesel, the potential hazards related to it are eliminated. Fourth, since gas-based generators emit fewer emissions, they are better for the environment and they will help the company promote cleaner energy usage and achieve its sustainability targets.

In the press release, Samsung says “Samsung is proud to lead the way in adopting sustainable energy solutions that ensure operational resilience and contribute to a cleaner, greener future. Our successful transition to natural gas generators underscores Samsung’s commitment to environmental stewardship and innovation.” “Samsung remains dedicated to exploring innovative approaches to sustainability, driving positive change, and setting new benchmarks for corporate responsibility in India and beyond,” it further adds.
