Shahbaz comes back. Change of ends for him. OUT! Shabaz strikes first ball of the over. Saha is caught at midwicket trying to go over the fielder but doesn’t find the elevation. In comes Sai Sudharsan as Impact Player, in place of Mohit Sharma. He is off the mark with a single, tucking a length ball on leg-stump. 

SIX! Gill shifts gears after Saha falls. He steps out and goes inside out for a maximum over extra-cover.

Jaydev Unadkat is into the attack. Full on off-stump and driven by Saha for one. Gill returns the strike to Saha with a drive on the off-side. Waist-high full toss on leg-stump and Saha sends it sailing for a maximum. Unadkat comes around the wicket. Saha flicks it on leg-side for a single off the last ball. 

Bhuvi continues. Saha swats this length ball on leg-side for a single. Dangerously flicked in the air by Gill and the ball falls in front of the midwicket fielder. FOUR! Saha steps out and chips the ball over mid-off for another boundary. Saha steps out again and ends up pulling the ball off the inside half of the bat to fine-leg for just a single. 

Shahbaz Ahamad from the other end as SRH takes a punt in introducing spin early on. Drifted on the pads and flicked by Saha for a single. Pushed through mid-off by Gill off the front-foot for one more. In the slot on leg-stump and Saha lofts this over long-on for the first maximum of the innings. Saha backs away outside leg-stump but ends up lifting this just over the bowler for a single. Tucked away on leg-side for one more by Gill. Saha ends the over with a single through cover. 

GT will back itself to chase this down. Saha and Gill walk out to start the innings. Both will want some runs under their belt today. Bhuvneshwar Kumar to begin the proceedings with the ball. Saha is off the mark with a single off the first ball. He guides it to deep third. Outside edge in the same region for Gill and he collects a couple more. A couple of dot balls as Gill looks like he is in no hurry to get to this middling total. FOUR! But he won’t miss out when there is width outside off. He punches this elegantly through cover for a boundary. 

Off cutter from Mohit to start with. Shabhaz misses it completely. Another wide off cutter from Mohit. Shabhaz only manages to get only his bottom edge onto it. Easy catch for Tewatia.

Gujarat Titans bowlers put in an impressive shift to reduce the mighty batting lineup under 200 for the first time this season. Mohit Sharma was the pick of the lot for the home side, with the right arm pacer ending with figures of 3/25. 

Nalkande with the penultimate over. Short ball from the right arm pacer and Samad only manages an top edge to it. A diving Umesh Yadav fails to hold on to the catch. 

Slow ball into the body now. Shabhaz anticipates it and lofts it over mid wicket for an 85-metre six. 

Mohit with the 18th over. A brilliant wide yorker to start the over with. Slow bouncer into the body for Shabhaz, who can only get a single out of it. Low full toss now from Mohit and Samad tonks it over long off for a six. 11 off the over. 

Rashid with his final over of the day. Samad gets the over off with a double. A dot ball follows before two singles are added. Samad on strike for the last ball of the over. Full from Rashid and Samad smokes it straight back for a four.

Noor Ahmed goes full and straight against Klaasen, who finally connects one. Over midwicket and for a six, without even connecting properly.

Mohit continues. Low full toss from him. Surprisingly, Klaasen doesn’t have a swing at it. Opts to tap it for a single to long on. Mohit continues to keep it tight as he offers close to no pace for Markram and Klaasen to work with. Just seven runs from the over. 

Noor continues. In-form Klaasen on strike and he gets off the mark with a four down the leg side. Noor responds by sliding one past the outside edge of Markram. Another tight over from the Afghan spinner. 

Mohit Sharma replaces Rashid Khan. The right arm pacer varies the pace and length just enough to keep it away from the hitting arc of Abhishek and Markram. His good work is rewarded by a wicket. Slower length ball and Abhishek misreads it. Slices it onto the hands of Shubman Gill.

On the pads from Omarzai and Mayank Agarwal looks to loft it over the fine leg fence. But he can’t clear Darshan Nalkande there. First wicket for GT.

Mayank Agarwal makes room on the leg side before lobbing a Umesh Yadav length ball over mid on for a four. Umesh brings the length back to prevent the SRH openers from getting under the ball. Just two runs from the next three balls. Short from Umesh now and square leg umpire calls it a wide. Gill uses a review to overturn the decision. 

Omarzai back for his second. Much more accurate stuff from the Afghan pacer. Just two runs from the first four balls as he squeezes two dot balls against Mayank. But the pressure is broken thanks to a bad piece of misfielding at mid off. Runs away for a four. Just another leg bye from the over. 

Umesh Yadav with the second over of the innings. On the pads first ball and nudged away for a single by Mayank. Head too adds an easy single. Once against leg sideish from Umesh. Mayank clips it away. A good diving save from Nalkande prevents a boundary. Three runs taken. 

Length from Umesh and Head smacks it off his back foot straight back for his third four of the innings. 

Omarzai with one on the off stump to start with. Defended on the front foot by Mayank Agarwal. Full from Omarzai and Mayank drives it on the up. Single taken. 

Short and wide from Omarzai and Travis Head creams it through covers for a four. On the pads now and Head slides it off his pads for another four.

Rashid Khan hasn’t bowled much to the SRH trio of Travis Head, Aiden Markram and Heinrich Klaasen. They have faced only 57 balls between them against the Afghan in T20 cricket. So, how that match-up fares, especially in the middle-overs, will be interesting to watch.

Sunrisers Hyderabad’s middle-order is packed with power-hitters, as we witnessed in a record-breaking run-fest against Mumbai Indians. The team has the highest run rate from overs 7 to 16 in IPL 2024, scoring at 10.05 runs an over. Contrastingly, Gujarat Titans’ accumulator-heavy line-up only manages to go at 8.15 runs an over. This is where the contest could be decided today.

With a win and a loss each, there is little to separate Gujarat Titans (GT) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Yet, it is the latter that will take to the field with more confidence when they meet at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday. 

GT, after opening with a nervous six-run win over Mumbai Indians, suffered a 63-run drubbing at Chennai Super Kings’ hands that sent its net run-rate south. SRH, following the narrow four-run defeat to Kolkata Knight Riders, raked up IPL’s highest-ever total (277) before going on to beat MI by 31 runs. 

The contrast is especially stark in the way the teams have batted. GT has found middle-overs acceleration tough, with the likes of Sai Sudharsan, Vijay Shankar, Azmatullah Omarzai and David Miller unable to bat with freedom. Australian wicket-keeper batter Matthew Wade will be welcomed back into the squad, but to fit him in, the think-tank will have much tinkering to do. 

For SRH on the other hand, Abhishek Sharma, Heinrich Klaasen, Travis Head and Aiden Markram have been at their marauding best, helping their side breach the 200-run mark twice in succession.

Bowling is an area where both GT and SRH have to improve. A better performance will be expected from the seasoned Umesh Yadav, whom GT is banking on in the absence of Mohammed Shami but has gone for more than 10-an-over. SRH, meanwhile, will look to not concede in excess of 200 again. 

This being an afternoon tie, dew will have negligible effect. But the sweltering summer heat will test endurance levels, with temperatures expected to hover around 40°C around start-time.
