Mukhtar Ansari, a former mobster who is now a politician, had his barracks and CCTV footage sealed at the Banda division jail on saturday in advance of the legal investigation into his murder. Furthermore, a report regarding Ansari's medical history and treatment was filed at the MP/MLA court by senior jail superintendent Viresh raj Sharma. A thorough report on Ansari's condition and the actions taken by the jail administration was requested by the court. Following Ansari's death on thursday night, Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, MP/MLA court, Garima Singh, was given an inquiry by Chief Judicial Magistrate, Banda, Bhagwan Das Gupta, on Friday. She was asked to finish the investigation within 30 days.

On saturday morning, a review committee led by the chief judicial magistrate including district judge Babbu Sarang, Banda SP Ankur Agarwal, and district magistrate Durga shakti Nagpal visited the Banda jail. According to sources with knowledge of the situation, the officials spent their 45-minute visit looking over the documents, visiting the high-security barrack number 16, where Mukhtar was being held, and viewing the CCTV footage. The officials declared that the footage and the barrack had been sealed, and they said that the team members had also looked through Ansari's utensils. 

According to senior jail superintendent Viresh raj Sharma, the inspection was standard procedure, conducted by the review committee every three months. This committee, which is led by the district judge in each district, is made up of DM and SP as members and CJM as the member-secretary. Its main duty is to perform an inspection at the jail once every three months. He added, "The committee went through the CCTV footage and visited the high-security barrack," and that he had also sent in his report to the MP/MLA court. The process of recording the statements of ten wardens and a jailor assigned to barrack 16 was completed in the previous forty-eight hours. Their statements have been forwarded to the lucknow headquarters of the UP jails.
