True to the weather forecast, it was mostly cloudy and damp for San Pedro’s afternoon Easter market on Saturday, March 30.
But organizers — Discover San Pedro/the Business Improvement District — weren’t deterred and made the best of it, planning ahead to move some events indoors at the shops in the 300 block of West Seventh Street in the downtown shopping district if needed.
They also aimed at dodging the worst of the rain that was forecast to hit in the early morning and early evening hours. The 7th Street Market included shopping, entertainment and a kids’ scavenger hunt. And, of course, a visit by the Easter Bunny.
It was the port town’s second iteration of what organizers hope will be a cycle of four seasonal markets every year. The first drew throngs of people leading up to Christmas in December.
San Pedro’s downtown is changing rapidly as several new mid-rise buildings go up, changing the skyline and bringing more people with it. The district has proven to be a popular spot for outdoor gatherings, from the monthly First Thursday art-themed open house to the popular Day of the Dead event that brings in thousands.
LA Fleet Week, returning this Memorial Day weekend, has also wrapped around the historic downtown where a welcoming festival is held each year for the visiting members of the nation’s military services.
