Ghazipur: The body of Mafia Mukhtar Ansari, the gangster-turned-politician from Uttar Pradesh, was laid to rest in his ancestral graveyard in Kali Bagh, Ghazipur, on Saturday. He was buried next to his mother’s grave.
The funeral was held under tight security, with heavy police deployment in the area. Thousands of people had gathered to pay their last respects to Ansari, and the administration had to struggle to control the crowd.
Ansari’s sons, Abbas Ansari and Umar Ansari, were present at the funeral, along with other family members and supporters.
The grave was prepared by three Hindu laborers – Girish, Sanjay, and Nagina. It was 7.5 feet long, 3.5 feet wide, and 5 feet deep.
Ansari died on Thursday at a hospital in Banda, Uttar Pradesh. He was 59 years old. He had been convicted of murder in 2023 and sentenced to life in prison.
Ansari was a controversial figure, with a long criminal history. He was accused of being involved in several murders, kidnappings, and extortion cases. However, he also had a large following among the poor and marginalized in his constituency of Mau.
