Son charged with father's murder after man shot in Benson home

A son has been charged with murder after his father died in a shooting inside a home in Benson.

Kenneth Jake Dawson, age 20, was arrested.

Deputies responded to the shooting at 6:45 p.m. on Friday night. They found a man dead on the scene, along North Carolina Highway 242 near Railroad Road, according to the sheriff's office.

The sheriff's office said one person was detained at the time.

The investigation is ongoing.
