Panaji: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Goa seized 532g methamphetamine worth around `53.2 lakh during a raid in Candolim. The NCB arrested R Singh and J Singh, both natives of Rajasthan.
The Bureau said that it received input that, due to strict checking at various checkpoints at airports, parcel offices, and land routes, and Goa being a tourist attraction, a locally operated syndicate was eyeing an opportunity to provide narcotics to the illegal drug circuit.
After alerting intelligence sources, information about Rajasthan-based J Singh having suspicious links
in Goa was noted. The accused was located in the Candolim area, and once physically identified, a discreet round-the-clock surveillance was mounted upon him, said the NCB.
On March 27, on confirmation about possession of drugs in bulk quantity, the NCB-Goa team intercepted him and recovered 532g methamphetamine. A vehicle used for drug deliveries was also seized.
During the investigation, an associate, R Singh, who provided the logistical support, was apprehended, said the NCB.
J Singh had returned to India last year after working abroad. As stated in a voluntary statement, he was in need of quick money and was convinced that he could earn it through the illicit drug business, said NCB. He motivated his friend R Singh based
in Goa. J Singh plotted the scheme to procure and supply drugs with the help of R Singh, said the NCB.
