Commentary (Updated March 28, 2024): The initial forecasts for the Emmy’s outstanding limited or anthology series category are out, highlighting an intensely competitive field with only five nomination spots available, contingent on the total submissions.
This year, the drama and comedy categories may appear less contested, but the limited series category is overflowing with high-caliber entries. The limited nomination slots will undoubtedly exclude some outstanding narrative works come Emmy nomination morning, intensifying the competition and unpredictability. It might be time for the TV Academy to consider securing eight nominees for this category, given its richness in quality content.
Additional categories included below showcase animated programs, offering a spot for the critically acclaimed and widely popular “X-Men ’97” to gain recognition, and talk series, possibly providing an opportunity to finally honor Seth Meyers. The scripted variety category will likely see John Oliver and “SNL” facing off once more. However, the separation of scripted variety and talk series seems impractical, given the current competitive landscape, suggesting a potential merger of these categories.
Upcoming For Your Consideration (FYC) events feature Apple’s “The Crowded Room” in New York on March 28, followed by Roku Channel’s “The Spiderwick Chronicles” and Apple’s documentary “Steve! (martin)” on March 30.
Note: Not all category and genre placements are yet to be confirmed.
