Sponsored: Mr. Johnny Hackett from Elsik High School receives The Randalls Red Apple Award for planting the seeds of his students' success

Randalls Red Apple Award is gifted to one standout educator in the Greater Houston Area each month within the school year.

HOUSTON — We all have that one teacher that lifted us up, inspired us to be something bigger and encouraged us to maybe do what we are doing today. Great Day Houston and Randalls want to reward those unforgettable educators with the Red Apple Award.

The Randalls Red Apple Award for March goes to Mr. Johnny Hackett from Elsik High School in Alief ISD. His daughter, Leslee Hackett, nominated him for the award. Leslee says she grew up watching Mr. Hackett spend countless hours at school. Whether it was to water the plants in the greenhouse, write the Floral coursework or attend exhibition shows with students. Mr.Hackett has helped over 200 students get their floral certification since working at Elsik. Several students have went on to start their own floral business and keep in contact with him over the years thanking him for helping them get started.

Elsik Coordinating Principal, Tina Elzy, says Mr. Hackett works tirelessly to help his students with their projects and truly has their best interest at heart. His students participate in horticulture competitions, horse judging, rabbit shows and visits to Texas A&M to learn about their Agriculture Science and Veterinarian schools. On campus, Mr. Hackett and his students work on plant beds in the cafeterias. They make and sell mums for homecoming, wreaths and poinsettias at the holidays and floral arrangements at Valentine's Day.
