TRAIL HIKE: At Moreau Lake State Park, 10am. Join a park educator on a guided 2.4 mile out-and-back hike with around 500 ft elevation gain to get to Moreau Overlook that has excellent site seeing at the top. Please wear appropriate clothing for the weather and waterproof boots. Bring microspikes if you have them, we have snowshoes and microspikes to rent at the office if you need them. The cost is $5 per adult, payable by cash or check at the office upon your arrival. Reservations are required at least 24 hours in advance, to reserve your spot, call the office at 518-793-0511.

FILM SCREENING: The Tang Museum and Art Gallery at Skidmore College announces “Framing the Flesh,” a series of films shown over three nights on March 28, April 4, and April 18 that explore our relationship with our bodies and unconventional bodily alterations. Presented in conjunction with the exhibition “Abject Anatomy,” the screening series is the capstone project by Piper Ingels ’24, the 2023-24 Meg Reitman Jacobs ’63 Endowed Intern at the Tang. These films contain material of a highly sensitive nature including language, nudity, violence, gore, and disturbing content. The screenings are free and open to the public. FISH FRY: Saratoga Knights of Columbus Council # 246 will once again be hosting Fish Fry Fridays throughout Lent. The first will be February 24, then each Friday until March 29 from 5-7. Orders can be made each Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday from noon until 3:00 p.m. by calling 518 -584-8547. The menu will include fried or baked fish, clam strips, clam chowder, each will include french fries and coleslaw. This is a take-out or eat in our lounge event.

WIGGLY WANDERERS: At Moreau Lake State Park, 9:30am. Wiggly wanderers is a casual and fun program that is offered to walking toddlers, carriable babies and their caregivers. This will be a beginner’s hike/wander series for toddlers who are ready to move and caregivers who are willing and able to baby wear and/or carry their toddler if their legs get too tired. We will not plan too much distance walking and we will rely on teachable moments to carry us through these experiences. Strollers will not work for these programs. While you do not need to attend each week, we will continue to build our toddlers hiking skills as well as their caregivers’ confidence taking the children into the woods to explore. K9 EASTER EGG HUNT: Easter is for the dogs at Hudson Crossing Park! The park is hosting its annual K9 Easter Egg Hunt on March 30th and 31st, 9am-5pm. Plastic eggs filled with treats from Lazy Dog Cookie company will be “hidden” throughout the park, waiting for curious pups to find them. Throughout the weekend, park volunteers will restock and hide the eggs, mainly in the Play Garden area and along the Sensory Trail, giving the dogs and their owners a scenic view of the Hudson River while they hunt for eggs. The suggested donation is $10 per dog via Hudson Crossing Park’s website: www.HudsonCrossingPark.org/support. Please remember to respect fellow dogs and owners, and follow all local leash laws.

BEGINNER BIRDING: Greenwich Free Library invites the public to join Mark Silo and John Loz from Southern Adirondack Audubon Society as they present a Beginner Birding Workshop in the Community Room on Saturday, March 30, at 11:00am. They will discuss some readily available resources that can enhance your enjoyment of birding. A 20-minute presentation will showcase field guides, use of binoculars, birding locations and seasons, local clubs, some awesome new phone apps, and more, with time to ask questions indoors. Attendees will then head outdoors with Mark and John to practice what they learned. The group will look for birds, practice using
binoculars, and look for field marks on birds that help identify them. A limited supply of extra

WRITING WORKSHOP, PART 2: The Galway Public Library, 2112 East Street, Galway, is pleased to announce that we are hosting a two-part Writing Workshop at the Library on Saturday, March 23 and Saturday, March 30 from 10-3. The instructor, Suzanne Rancourt, will use the Amherst Writers & Artists (AWA) Expressive Arts Method which encourages writers of all skill levels and genres to push boundaries in their writing and to cultivate their writer’s voice by exploring fresh ideas through multi-sense writing prompts. Participants are encouraged to share their work and give respectful feedback to others as part of the learning process. The workshop will be held over two 4-hour work sessions, with an additional one-hour lunch break each day. This workshop is for adults and older teens. Class size is limited to 10 participants, so registration is required. The fee to participate is $20 per participant, payable to the Galway Public Library. This program is being offered at a reduced price because of partial funding through an Arts & Literary Grant, Funded by the Story Quilt Book.

EASTER EGG HUNT: Glimmerglass State Park is teaming up with Hyde Hall to host an “egg-citing” adventure on the mansion’s front lawn that will captivate both the young and the young at heart. 267 Glimmerglass State Park, Cooperstown, Park in the West Lot just down the hill from Hyde Hall. Starting at 10 a.m. SHARP on March 30th, participants are urged to arrive extra early and BRING YOUR OWN BASKET to ensure a seamless and delightful experience. Hyde Hall’s picturesque and historic grounds will be magically transformed into a treasure trove of hidden eggs (including golden eggs to win special prizes) and candy for all! Families and friends are invited to join forces, embarking on a journey to explore, hunt, and uncover the surprises hidden throughout the estate. PRESERVATION SOCIETY PROGRAM: A Galway Preservation Society presentation. Doors open at 6:45, the program will begin at 7:00. The meeting will be held at the Galway Town Hall, 5910 Sacandaga Road, Galway. Topic: “Who is Saint Isaac Jogues? And Why Does He Matter?” Historian Sean Kelleher will explore how this region of spectacular natural landscapes became the central scene in the 17th Century for the life and martyr of Saint Isaac Jogues. Isaac Jogues’s life inspired many people, including pilgrims to discover, honor, celebrate, and share the heritage and stories of this region. Our programs are always open to the public, free of charge. If you choose, annual family or household membership is available for $10 per year. FOREST BATHING: At Moreau Lake State Park, 9am. The spring equinox will kick off our weekly forest bathing once again! Coined shinrin-yoku in Japan in the 1980’s, forest bathing is the ecotherapeutic practice of spending time immersed in nature, absorbing it with all of your senses. The physiological and psychological benefits last for days afterward with the additional benefit of a new appreciation of our precious woodland and its inhabitants. This is a beginner-rated walk along the Nature Trail with long pauses to sit and enhance our awareness of our surroundings and it is approximately a 2-hour program. A small mat is beneficial to ensure a dry seat. This program is limited to those age 14 and up. Pay $5 per person (cash or check) at the office upon arrival. TRAIL HIKE: At Moreau Lake State Park, 10am. A hike specifically geared toward children. A park educator will lead you and your family on a roughly 1 mile hike, that is off trail in a lesser known part of the park. This is not stroller friendly and there will be some muddy areas and terrain that will take some thought from those with little legs. We will take our time and enjoy however much our group is up for and we can make this hike shorter if needed. Please dress yourself and children appropriately with clothes that can get wet and dirty and shoes to keep their feet dry. This program will be $1 per child. Please call to reserve your spot 518-793-

BEAVER WALK: At Moreau Lake State Park, 1pm. Did you know that MLSP is home to a thriving population of North America’s largest rodent? We will walk along the Wetlands Walk and Mud Pond trails where we can view our beaver’s dam and lodges while we learn all about how they live, love and learn. This program is for people of all ages, it’s an easy-moderate hike of about 2.5 miles. Pay $1 per child and $5 per adult (cash or check) at the office upon arrival. SARATOGA SPRINGS CITY COUNCIL MEETING: Saratoga Springs City Council meetings are regularly scheduled for 7 pm on the first and third Tuesday of every month at 474 Broadway in Saratoga Springs. Meetings are held in the Council Room at City Hall at this time. Meetings are open to the public, and admission into the room will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Check the meeting agenda for times of Public Hearings. The Ramp Door on the Broadway entrance to the building will be open for public access at 6:30 pm and earlier for special schedules. ECLIPSE VIEWER CRAFT: At Moreau Lake State Park, noon. We will spend the day in the nature center talking about the eclipse and making viewing “cameras” out of cereal boxes as well as making a simple craft to help understand what is happening during the eclipse on April 7. Anyone who wants to join is welcome, please bring a cereal or cracker shaped box to make into your own viewer to take home, all other supplies will be on hand. This is a drop-in program so come whenever you like during the 10am-2pm hours. However we do ask you call to register so that we have enough supplies! PRESERVATION BASICS: An online “lunch and learn” class hosted by the Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation. This first program of a series – funded through the Certified Local Government grant through the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation – aims to educate the public, including regional land use boards, on various aspects of historic preservation. In this first program, Samantha Bosshart will provide a brief history of the historic preservation movement, address common misconceptions of historic preservation, and highlight various architectural styles throughout the Capital Region. She will review the findings of “Saratoga Springs: Enhancing the Values through Historic Preservation,” an economic impact study completed by PlaceEconomics for the City of Saratoga Springs. This report demonstrates the economic value of historic preservation. PHOTOGRAPHY LECTURE: On Wednesday, April 3rd at 7 pm, the Galway Public Library, 2112 East Street, Galway, will host “The Story Behind the Pictures,” a talk by local photographer Mark Frederick. Mark will tell the stories behind some of his favorite photos, a glimpse of the awe he witnessed before, during, and after the camera click. Call to register at 518-882-6385.

FROG WATCH TRAINING: A free program at Wilton Wildlife Preserve and Park. 6pm to 8pm. FrogWatch USA is a nationwide citizen science program to count frog populations. Join Wilton Wildlife at the Winter Lodge at Camp Saratoga to learn about the FrogWatch protocols. In this training, participants will learn how to report data on the calls of native frogs to assist herpetologists and their research. It’s a fun activity for all ages! WIGGLY WANDERERS: At Moreau Lake State Park, 9:30am. Wiggly wanderers is a casual and fun program that is offered to walking toddlers, carriable babies and their caregivers. This will be a beginner’s hike/wander series for toddlers who are ready to move and caregivers who are willing and able to baby wear and/or carry their toddler if their legs get too tired. We will not plan too much distance walking and we will rely on teachable moments to carry us through these experiences. Strollers will not work for these programs. While you do not need to attend each week, we will continue to build our toddlers hiking skills as well as their caregivers’ confidence taking the children into the woods to explore. EAGLE WATCH: At Moreau Lake State Park, 8:30am. Join a Park Educator on a convoy-style journey along the Hudson River to try to spot our local Bald Eagles. We will be getting in and out of vehicles at a few locations and, with a little luck, viewing the eagles through binoculars and a scope so make sure to bring your hat and gloves! If you have binoculars bring them, we do have a couple of pairs to pass around as well. $5 program fee payable at the office upon your arrival (cash or check). NATURE ON THE MOVE: On Mondays April 8 and April 22 at 10:30 am, Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park will be holding its bi-weekly Nature on the Move walks. These walks are led by one of Wilton Wildlife’s Environmental Educators and will take place on the NYS DEC’s Fox Parcel on April 8 and Old Gick Farm on April 22. These walks give participants an opportunity to get out on the trails with like-minded people and observe the beauty of nature in the spring. They are geared towards gentle exercise and are appropriate for adults at basic fitness levels. The group usually covers about 1.5 miles of trail. FOREST BATHING: At Moreau Lake State Park, 9am. The spring equinox will kick off our weekly forest bathing once again! Coined shinrin-yoku in Japan in the 1980’s, forest bathing is the ecotherapeutic practice of spending time immersed in nature, absorbing it with all of your senses. The physiological and psychological benefits last for days afterward with the additional benefit of a new appreciation of our precious woodland and its inhabitants. This is a beginner-rated walk along the Nature Trail with long pauses to sit and enhance our awareness of our surroundings and it is approximately a 2-hour program. A small mat is beneficial to ensure a dry seat. This program is limited to those age 14 and up. Pay $5 per person (cash or check) at the office upon arrival. Haiku, Senryu and Tanka are terse poetic forms adapted to English from the Japanese poetic tradition. ROAD RALLY: Friends of the Mohawk Towpath Byway, Mohawk-Hudson Region Sports Car Club of America is hosting a road rally on April 14. Mohawk Towpath Byway Road Rally is a 60+/- mile game, tour, adventure (GTA) along the Mohawk and Hudson Valleys showcasing the importance the Erie and Champlain Canals routes played in the area’s history. Commemorating the history, heritage, and culture of the canals, the rally demonstrates the connectivity between recreation areas and communities and between waterways and land trails. The rally is planned and held under the supervision of the Mohawk-Hudson Region Sports Car Club of America. Registration opens at 9am, Driver/ Navigator meeting at 9:50am, first car off at 10:05am. Event has a three hour time limit followed by a catered lunch and awards ceremony in the barn at the Mabee Farm. Open to individuals and families of all ages, minimum entry must include a driver and a navigator. Each team will need the following: entry fee of $25, camera with digital display, internet access, and a GPS unit, or a smartphone or tablet with these capabilities. SARATOGA SPRINGS CITY COUNCIL MEETING: Saratoga Springs City Council meetings are regularly scheduled for 7 pm on the first and third Tuesday of every month at 474 Broadway in Saratoga Springs. Meetings are held in the Council Room at City Hall at this time. Meetings are open to the public, and admission into the room will be on a first-come, first-served basis. TRIVIA NIGHT FUNDRAISER: The Saratoga County History Center is hosting Trivia Night at historic Anne’s Washington Inn, 111 South Broadway Saratoga Springs, on Tuesday, April 16 from 6-9pm. FILM SCREENING: The Tang Museum and Art Gallery at Skidmore College announces “Framing the Flesh,” a series of films shown over three nights on March 28, April 4, and April 18 that explore our relationship with our bodies and unconventional bodily alterations. Presented in conjunction with the exhibition “Abject Anatomy,” the screening series is the capstone project by Piper Ingels ’24, the 2023-24 Meg Reitman Jacobs ’63 Endowed Intern at the Tang. HISTORICAL LECTURE: Join the Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation and the Saratoga Joinery on Thursday, April 18 at 7 pm for the in-person program, “On this Spot: 69 Caroline Street” for an in-depth look at the history of 69 Caroline Street. Carol Godette will discuss the various uses of the 1880s brick duplex, from its early functions to its newest iteration as Saratoga Joinery, a community woodworking space. WIGGLY WANDERERS: At Moreau Lake State Park, 9:30am. Wiggly wanderers is a casual and fun program that is offered to walking toddlers, carriable babies and their caregivers. This will be a beginner’s hike/wander series for toddlers who are ready to move and caregivers who are willing and able to baby wear and/or carry their toddler if their legs get too tired. We will not plan too much distance walking and we will rely on teachable moments to carry us through these experiences. Strollers will not work for these programs. While you do not need to attend each week, we will continue to build our toddlers hiking skills as well as their caregivers’ confidence taking the children into the woods to explore. EARTH DAY CELEBRATION: Sustainable PR and the Glens Falls Earth Day Planning Committee proudly present our fourth-annual Earth Day Celebration on Saturday, April 20th, 11:00 am – 2:00 pm. CHURCH TAKEOUT DINNER: Simpson United Methodist Church, located at 1089 Rock City Road, Rock City Falls, is having our semi-annual Drive-Thru Chicken & Biscuit Dinner on Saturday from 4:30 pm to 7:00 pm. NATURE ON THE MOVE: On Mondays April 8 and April 22 at 10:30 am, Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park will be holding its bi-weekly Nature on the Move walks. These walks are led by one of Wilton Wildlife’s Environmental Educators and will take place on the NYS DEC’s Fox Parcel on April 8 and Old Gick Farm on April 22. These walks give participants an opportunity to get out on the trails with like-minded people and observe the beauty of nature in the spring. They are geared towards gentle exercise and are appropriate for adults at basic fitness levels. The group usually covers about 1.5 miles of trail. Nature on the Move happens every other week, year-round. Registration is required at least one business day in advance. FULL MOON HIKE: At Moreau Lake State Park, 7pm. Join a Park Educator on a beginner hike around Moreau Lake. If the clouds cooperate, we’ll get to enjoy the splendor of the moon rising above the mountains! This hike is family friendly and well-behaved dogs on a 6 foot or shorter leash are welcome. $1 per child, $5 per adult is payable by cash or check at the office upon your arrival. FOREST BATHING: At Moreau Lake State Park, 9am. The spring equinox will kick off our weekly forest bathing once again! Coined shinrin-yoku in Japan in the 1980’s, forest bathing is the ecotherapeutic practice of spending time immersed in nature, absorbing it with all of your senses. The physiological and psychological benefits last for days afterward with the additional benefit of a new appreciation of our precious woodland and its inhabitants. This is a beginner-rated walk along the Nature Trail with long pauses to sit and enhance our awareness of our surroundings and it is approximately a 2-hour program. A small mat is beneficial to ensure a dry seat. This program is limited to those age 14 and up. Pay $5 per person (cash or check) at the office upon arrival. BEGINNER BIRD WATCHING: At Moreau Lake State Park, 8:30am. Calling all beginner birders. Join us on a guided hike to search for birds! Feel free to bring binoculars. The hike will be a start and stop walk for less than two miles. Please wear appropriate clothes and boots for this program. $5 per adult and $1 per child, Please Reserve your spot by calling the office at 518-793-0511.

TRAIL STEWARD MEETING: At Moreau Lake State Park, 10am. A meeting to introduce the trail steward program to newcomers. The duties of a trail steward include walking the trails of Moreau Lake State Park to identify and report maintenance needs, light trail maintenance including cutting back branches with supplied hand saws and loppers and hanging trail signs when necessary. This meeting will provide crucial information on what to look for on the trails. Established trail stewards are welcome to come, but it is not mandatory. This meeting is free. FOREST BATHING: At Moreau Lake State Park, 9am. The spring equinox will kick off our weekly forest bathing once again! Coined shinrin-yoku in Japan in the 1980’s, forest bathing is the ecotherapeutic practice of spending time immersed in nature, absorbing it with all of your senses. The physiological and psychological benefits last for days afterward with the additional benefit of a new appreciation of our precious woodland and its inhabitants. This is a beginner-rated walk along the Nature Trail with long pauses to sit and enhance our awareness of our surroundings and it is approximately a 2-hour program. A small mat is beneficial to ensure a dry seat. This program is limited to those age 14 and up. Pay $5 per person (cash or check) at the office upon arrival. MAHJONGG: Galway Public Library, 2112 East St. Galway, will host Mahjongg games each Monday at noon. Players are requested to register by calling 518-882-6385. More information about all library programs is available at www.galwaypubliclibrary.org.

HIKING PREPAREDNESS: At Moreau Lake State Park, 10am. Join an educator at the nature center to plan for the upcoming summer hiking season. Learn how to plan and prepare for hiking with a demonstration on what to put in your pack, first-aid basics, and leave no trace ethics. If you are able, we will then go on a hike around Mud Pond, this is an easier hike around 2.5 miles in total please be prepared with appropriate clothes and boots. The cost is $5 per
adult and $1 per child.

AUTHOR TALK: Don Miller, author of “Masters of the Air: America’s Bomber Boys Who Fought the Air War Against Nazi Germany,” will be at the Spa Little Theater in Saratoga Springs on April 30 at 7 pm as part of the Saratoga Book Festival. Miller’s book is the inspiration behind the major Apple TV streaming series “Masters of the Air.” The one-hour book talk will include a short clip from a key scene of the Masters of the Air TV series and an audience Q&A, followed by a book signing.
