6 Gant condominiums uninhabitable after Tuesday morning fire

Six condominiums sustained damage and are currently uninhabitable after a structure fire early Tuesday morning, according to an Aspen Fire Protection District (AFPD) news release. No injuries were reported.
According to the release, AFPD was dispatched to a reported structure fire at 610 S West End Street in Aspen at The Gant at 5:14 a.m. Initial dispatch information indicated “smoke was coming from the unit above” the reporting party in unit 104. AFPD apparatus and personnel responded immediately and were on the scene within minutes.

Crews began aggressive offensive operations and contained the fire to the chimney chase, preventing extension into the adjacent condominiums. Multiple apparatus and personnel from AFPD responded with two engines, a rescue unit, and three command vehicles. Aspen Ambulance District responded with an ambulance.
Mutual aid resources from Roaring Fork Fire Rescue Authority and Carbondale & Rural Fire Protection District responded to the scene with two engines, a ladder truck and four command vehicles. Roaring Fork Fire Rescue Authority provided standby coverage during the incident. Aspen Police Department and Pitkin County Sheriff’s Department also responded and provided assistance with evacuation.
S West End Street and Ute Avenue are closed for firefighter operations and multiple apparatus staged on the roadway. 38 personnel were working on the incident which contained a strong volunteer response, according to the release.

Your dedication and professionalism under such circumstances is truly commendable. Furthermore, we are incredibly thankful for the first responders who immediately responded to the incident with precision, care and bravery and promptly contained and extinguished the fire while ensuring the safety and well-being of everyone on site. At this time, we are actively communicating to our guests and owners as updates become available.”
