The following student-athletes have been selected to The Washington Post’s 2023-24 All-Met team for boys’ basketball:

Player of the Year

Darren Harris, G, Sr., Paul VI

Harris emerged at Paul VI as a young sharpshooter, and after a dominant senior season he will leave as a well-rounded star. Handed a leadership role on the area’s most talented team, Harris played with stoicism and confidence against a relentless schedule of nationally celebrated opponents. The Duke signee averaged 17 points, 4.5 rebounds, three assists and two steals as the Panthers coasted to Washington Catholic Athletic Conference and Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association titles. The highlight of a celebratory year came in early February, when he exploded for 52 points on 78 percent shooting in a win against St. Mary’s Ryken.

First team

Tey Barbour, G, Sr., Patriot

The Harvard signee helped the Pioneers return to the Virginia Class 6 title game. He averaged 20 points and six rebounds for the Prince William County powerhouse.

Ben Hammond, G, Sr., Paul VI

An experienced floor general for the area’s most talented team, Hammond averaged seven assists as the Panthers dominated the D.C. area.

Acaden Lewis, G, Jr., Sidwell Friends

Lewis is the latest in a long line of playmaking guards at Sidwell. The shifty scorer averaged 14.5 points as the Quakers earned two titles.

Nyk Lewis, G, Jr., Gonzaga

A repeat first-teamer, Lewis expanded his game this year, averaging 13 points, six rebounds and 4.5 assists for the WCAC’s runner-up.

Jordan Scott, F, Jr., South Lakes

An atypical star, Scott averaged 20 points, eight rebounds, four assists and four blocks as the Seahawks pieced together an improbable championship campaign.

Adrien Stevens, G, Jr., Bullis

The highflying Stevens has seen his stock soar in the past year, as he averaged 14 points and shot 43 percent from deep to help the Bulldogs win an outright title in the Interstate Athletic Conference.

Bryson Tucker, G, Sr., Bishop O’Connell

In his first season in the WCAC, Tucker handled himself just fine — averaging 20 points and five rebounds for the Knights.

Cam Ward, F, Jr., Largo

The catalyst of the Lions’ Maryland Class 2A state title win, Ward totaled 26.4 points and 11.8 rebounds per game.

Caleb Williams, F, Sr., Sidwell Friends

The versatile Georgetown signee closed his high school career by helping the Quakers to another pair of conference and state titles.

Coach of the Year

Mike Desmond, South Lakes

In his fourth season with the Seahawks, the gruff but fair Desmond took a group that admitted it struggled with egos into one that coalesced into a dominant postseason force. After getting bounced in the state semifinals in its previous two seasons, South Lakes was dominant on both sides of the ball, winning its first state title following a 65-39 drubbing of Patriot.
