Two people confirmed dead in overnight house fire in Mayo

Two people have died in a house fire which broke out overnight in Mayo.
It’s understood emergency services attended the scene after the alarm was raised in the early hours of this morning.
Local Swinford based fire service arrived first on the scene and managed to bring the extensive blaze under control but tragically the fire was well advanced by the time they were notified.
It is understood two people, the occupants of the house, have died.
Emergency service vehicles remain at the scene which was made secure pending an examination to determine the cause of the blaze.
A garda spokesman confirmed the incident.
“Gardaí and other emergency services attended at the scene of a fire at a house in Swinford, County Mayo, earlier this morning (Tuesday 26th March 2024).
“Local fire services have since brought the fire under control. The scene remains preserved this morning.
“No further information is available at this time.”
