Top Christie's Lot Almost Trebles Low Estimate

(IDEX Online) - The top lot at Christie's first Jewels Online auction of the year was a Kashmir Sapphire and Diamond Ring (pictured).
The 8.19-carat cushion mixed-cut trapezoid-shaped sapphire  set with diamonds in platinum nearly tripled its low estimate of $300,000, selling for $856,800.
A 17.09-carat Harry Winston diamond ring sold for $819,000. The D color, VVS2 clarity, Type IIa gem carried a $700,000 to $1m estimate. 
Christie's said the sale realized a total of $13,521,438. It was sold 131 per cent by its low estimate, 100 per cent by value, and 97 per cent by lot.  
The sale, from 11 to 21 March, showcased classic and sought-after designs by Buccellati, Bulgari, Cartier, David Webb, Hemmerle, Seaman Schepps, Tiffany & Co., Jean Schlumberger, Van Cleef & Arpels, Verdura and more, featuring a wide variety of antique, vintage and contemporary jewels.
