Jacquie Dunbar has given hundreds of hours to the community where she's originally from, and she's giving hope... through Hope.
"Step in prior to homelessness, and make sure we give our local community what they need to avoid becoming homeless," Dunbar said as she described what her mission statement would be.
That same statement is what Hope Helps, Inc. staff and volunteers take very seriously. For more than five years, Dunbar has given hundreds of hours to that organization, doing everything she can to make someone's life better and helping to prevent homelessness and hunger.
"We actually go through and check every article of clothing that comes in to make sure it is not stained, overly worn," Dunbar said as she sorted through donated clothes. "Sweaters come in pilled sometimes."
Once sorted and checked, Dunbar puts the donations on the sales floor of the organization's store, so people can browse and buy.
"There is a lot of stuff in this place. We are very fortunate to get a lot of donations from the community," she said.
Hope named Dunbar "Volunteer of the Year" in 2021, and she proudly wears that distinction under her name tag.
One reason Dunbar wants to give her time to Hope Helps, Inc. is she was born and raised in this part of Seminole County.
She works full time at Universal Orlando Resort and is an ambassador for its "Club 52" program, an honor bestowed upon any Universal employee who completes 52 hours of volunteer service or more in a calendar year. It encourages team members to volunteer throughout the year, and a record 64,000 hours were logged in 2023.
To honor Dunbar, Universal Orlando Resort is giving Hope Helps, Inc. $2,500.
