A suspicious death in a hotel in southeast Calgary has prompted a police investigation on Monday.
According to a post on social media, police responded to reports of a shooting at the 0-100 block of Shawville Road S.E. in the neighbourhood of Shawnessy at around 3 p.m. Police said one man was located deceased in one of the suites.
Acting Staff Sgt. Juno Brady confirmed to Global News that the incident happened on the fourth floor of the hotel. At the time of the incident, a children’s birthday party was being held in the hotel.
Brady told reporters on Monday one person is in custody and the Calgary Police Service’s homicide unit is investigating the incident. It is unknown if the shooting was targeted.
A Calgary Police Service spokesperson told Global News Monday evening the room where the victim was found will be held for several days to investigate the incident. Detectives are also speaking with several witnesses, the spokesperson said.
A medical examiner arrived at the scene on Monday evening.
