Met Éireann has forecast both sunny spells and scattered heavy showers as five counties remain under a status yellow rain warning.

A status yellow rain warning remains in place for Clare, Cork, Kerry, Limerick and Galway until midday today.

The national forecaster said: “Heavy rain at times today for all of Kerry and for western parts of Cork, Limerick, Clare and Galway.”

Potential impacts include localised flooding, poor visibility and difficult travelling conditions.

Mostly cloudy to begin today, with outbreaks of rain and drizzle becoming lighter and patchier through the day.

Bright or sunny spells developing in the south, this afternoon but scattered showers too, some possibly heavy.

Highest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees with mostly light to moderate variable winds, but with occasionally fresh easterly winds near eastern and northern coasts.

Tonight will see some clearer breaks in west and southwest for a time, but becoming mostly cloudy with outbreaks of rain and drizzle extending to most parts overnight. Areas of mist and fog too.

Rain will become persistent and possibly heavy at times in southern and southeastern counties towards dawn.

Lowest temperatures of 0 to 5 degrees, coldest where clear breaks occur. Winds becoming light to moderate northerly overnight.

Cloudy with outbreaks of rain and drizzle to begin tomorrow.

Some brighter breaks will develop in the south and east through the afternoon as the rain gives way to showers, some heavy with a chance of hail and thunder. Highest temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees in light to moderate east to northeast breezes.

Tuesday night will bring a mix of cloud and clear spells with showers or longer spells of rain. Some of the showers will be heavy and of hail.

Lowest temperatures of 0 to 4 degrees. Light to moderate easterly or variable winds, increasing fresh and gusty near coasts.

Cold and blustery on Wednesday with widespread showers occasionally merging to longer spells of rain.

Many of the showers will be heavy with hail and thunder possible, potentially falling as sleet on hills and mountains.

Highest temperatures of 4 to 8 degrees. Moderate to fresh and gusty south to southeast winds.

Showers will become increasingly confined to coasts on Wednesday night with clear breaks developing. Blustery southeasterly winds will ease inland overnight. Lowest temperatures of 0 to 4 degrees with a touch of frost possible.

A little less cool on Thursday, with a mix of sunny spells and showers. Some of the showers could still be heavy with an ongoing chance of hail and thunder.

Highest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees. Moderate to fresh and gusty southwesterly winds. Showers becoming isolated on Thursday night with clear breaks developing.

Lowest temperatures of 2 to 6 degrees. Gusty southwesterly winds moderating inland, but continuing fresh to strong and gusty near coasts.

GA mix of sunshine and showers again on Good Friday. Some of the showers could still be heavy with a continuing possibility of hail and thunder.

Highest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees. Moderate to fresh and gusty southerly winds, strong on southern and western coasts.

Met Éireann has said Easter weekend will be “remaining unsettled but becoming milder.”
