The Colorado Department of Transportation will begin a highway improvement project on U.S. Highway 6 and Post Boulevard in Avon in April. The project will construct a roundabout with three legs that connect Highway 6 and Post Boulevard. The project will also install new asphalt and improve the approaches, drainage, signing and striping in the area.

The project team anticipates starting work on the north side of the existing roundabout and delineating the eastbound and westbound traffic into a head-to-head configuration on the south side. Speed limits will be reduced through the work zone to 20 miles per hour, with a ten-foot width restriction for commercial vehicles.

There will be open holes in the roadway at the intersection of Post Boulevard and Highway 6 for the storm drain work, so pedestrians and cyclists are encouraged to avoid this area while work is taking place.

Once complete, the project will improve safety and drivability for motorists at this busy intersection that connects Post Boulevard to Highway 6. The project is anticipated to be completed in December 2024.

Traffic impacts are anticipated to begin the week of April 1. Crews will be working Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day preparing the work zone.
