Man arrested in connection with Harnett County shooting that left teen dead

The Harnett County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man in connection with the murder of a 19-year-old.
Deputies arrested Darien Wellington Gayle around 3:25 p.m. Friday.
The sheriff’s office said Gayle is charged with the murder of Ashanti Monk, a 19-year-old from Angier.
Gayle, 23, of Dunn, is also charged with two counts of attempted murder and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury against two other people.
The sheriff’s office said the charges stem from a shooting incident that took place Sunday at 249 Sundowner Lane in Angier.
In addition to those charges, Gayle has also been charged with:
- 14 counts of discharging a firearm into occupied property
- one count of possession of a firearm by a felon.
- felony flee to elude with a motor vehicle
- Driving while his license revoked related to his apprehension.
Authorities are holding Gayle at the Harnett County Detention Center on no bond.
The investigation is ongoing.
