Says institutions in the country are acting as per the mandate of law

Panaji: Lashing out at national convenor of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Arvind Kejriwal, the state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday demanded stepping down of Kejriwal as Chief Minister of Delhi in the alleged excise policy scam in which he has been arrested by the Enforcement Directorate.

“If Kejriwal has some regard to probity in public life he should resign as the Chief Minister. His colleagues are also in jail with him. He should understand that this is real India which is against corruption and the law is catching up with the violators,” said BJP spokesperson Yatish Naik at a press conference at the party headquarters in Panaji.

“Law will take its own course. Institutions will act as per the legal mandate of law. Therefore, one cannot cry victimhood. When they criticise BJP needlessly, it proves that they have understood the mood of the public which is to re-elect Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister,” he said.

Speaking earlier, Naik said the Congress, at a press conference in Delhi on Thursday, made an unsuccessful attempt to portray themselves as victims.

“Because of the acts of commission and omission of the Congress party, the law has caught up with them. The institutions, which are established under law, are doing their job… The Congress and the INDIA alliance have understood the mood of the country which is against the Congress and against the alliance and in favour of the BJP. And, therefore, Congress knows well that they are facing an imminent defeat,” he said.

Meanwhile, BJP functionary Savio Rodrigues asked the two AAP legislators- Venzy Viegas and Cruz Silva, to come clear on the money trail from the scam.

Briefing the media in Margao, he said the arrest of Kejriwal is disappointing for every citizen of the country who had supported the movement of India Against Corruption and since Kejriwal was the face of the campaign. He also questioned if the two MLAs would stand by the truth if the money trail is traced to the Goa assembly election.

Replying to a question, he said corruption exists across the state and other parts of the country as well, “but it is not going to last.” ST Morcha vice-president Anthony Barbosa was also present for the press conference.
