For 2024, VW’s IQ.DRIVE suite of driver-assistance tech comes standard across the Tiguan lineup, with features such as adaptive cruise control and active lane control. Other new standard features on the base S trim include an auto-dimming rearview mirror and rain-sensing windshield wipers. A mid-year update will upgrade the infotainment system and add wireless charging.
The 2024 VW Tiguan is closely related to the cheaper, smaller, and less-powerful Volkswagen Taos. Conservative and clean exterior styling continues inside, which includes snug third-row seats in front-wheel-drive versions. Under the hood, a 184-hp 2.0-liter turbocharged-4 produces decent pep, with an 8-speed automatic gearbox that provides smooth shifts. The VW Tiguan gives a comfortable, yielding ride, though R-Line trims, with larger wheels, can be somewhat stiff. However, EPA ratings of 25 or 26 mpg combined are toward the thirsty end of the small crossover segment.

Ride quality is where the Tiguan truly shines, with a soft-tuned independent suspension system that works best with the base trims’ 17- or 18-inch wheels. The R-Line trims may look sportier with their 19- and 20-inch wheel options, though they detract from the ride somewhat.

All-wheel drive models are only available with two rows, and in this configuration offer an impressive 38.7 inches of legroom and almost 38 cubic feet of cargo space. That opens up to 73.4 cubic feet with the second row folded.
A third row comes standard with front-wheel drive models, and eats into both second-row and cargo space, but may be worth it for families with small kids.
The Tiguan’s cabin is welcoming and comfortable across the lineup, but doesn’t feel particularly upscale, even in top trims.

The Tiguan provides excellent outward vision to the front, but like most crossovers, that vision is compromised to the rear and sides.

The SE with all-wheel drive is a good value at about $35,000. It also gets synthetic leather upholstery, wireless smartphone compatibility, and 18-inch wheels.
