Oak-kay, if your lifestyle affords yew a spot to plant a tree, might we o-pine that you should pay a visit to the Arkansas Department of Agriculture’s headquarters mid-day tomorrow? Over at 1 Natural Resources Drive between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Friday, March 22, the department’s Forestry Division will be giving away “bare root” trees in honor of Arbor Day, the day set aside for marveling at the myriad things trees do for life on Earth, human and otherwise.

What’s up fir grabs? Thanks to a purchase from the Arkansas Urban Forestry Council — a nonprofit that the Arkansas Forestry Commission created to steer urban forestry issues — six species of hardwood seedlings native to Arkansas are available, including red mulberry, bald cypress, sycamore, Shumard oak, cherrybark oak and river birch. You can take home a total of five in your trunk, and they’re given out on a first-come, first-served basis.
