With a trademark burst of acceleration, hurler Kyle Hayes (25) left Limerick Courthouse, side-stepped the waiting media and jumped into a friend’s car to be driven away.

Dressed in a navy jacket, blue shirt and tan trousers, the five-times All-Ireland winner had a phone held to his ear as he left the Mulgrave Street court and ignored questions about the suspended two-year prison sentence he had just received for two counts of violent disorder.
