Letter: Brown Ranch is a good plan for our families

The Steamboat community has been discussing and creating attainable and affordable housing for decades. Our housing authority has helped tremendously in the last decade or so.

As a small business owner, many of our valued employees, subcontractors and vendors commute from the more affordable surrounding areas to work in our community. Our workers can reduce their environmental impact with a shorter commute. They could save money with a shorter commute. They would have more time to enjoy their families and community events with a shorter commute.

It makes sense to live close to where we work, go to school, socialize and recreate. Our businesses and the services we use suffer from the lack of qualified workers who can’t find reasonable housing.

As some of us ease into retirement, we look to downsize our family style homes, into a smaller footprint, without giving up our community. We need more options close in. The Brown Ranch longer term build is an excellent, well-thought-out, well-financed, opportunity for our families.
