Advertised as a boarding school, the Academy was designed to advise troubled teens and work on their issues before they went to college. However, the students didn’t realize they were entering a facility that didn’t care about how they were treated. Human decency was thrown out the door in favor of rampant abuse.

The kids’ freedoms – talking, smiling, and contact with the outside world – were taken away upon arrival. One of the students was Katherine Kubler, who struggled to cope with the trauma she experienced after leaving the Academy. Kubler documents her experiences in The Program: Cons, Cults and Kidnapping, a harrowing look into how a behavior facility became a breeding ground for abusers.
