New Enniscorthy Green Party candidate aims to cross the divide – ‘I hear a lot of politicians talk about rural Ireland but I don’t hear about any plans to protect it’

Brendan Cahill-Flynn is aware of the challenge ahead of him, aware that he is a member of a party which, traditionally, does not have a strong footing in the Enniscorthy district, but he is determined to overcome that challenge and, most importantly, change the public perception of his party of choice. Not only he is the first Green Party candidate to run for election in Enniscorthy in “a long time”, he admits that, for want of a better word, he is entering “hostile territory”.

But, as Brendan (24) explains, the Greens were a natural fit, a party which addresses both social policies and what he describes as “the great equaliser”; the environment.
